01 xls driver side headlight problem

I've done a search on this topic, but most apply to EB or Limited Explorers that have the console computer. My XLS doesn't, so there shouldn't be an LOM.

My driver side low beams don't work. The high beams are fine. I replaced the bulb and no luck. I replaced the multifunction switch and no luck. The new bulb does work becuase I've plugged it into the passenger side. Test voltage and seems to be there at the harness. Any other suggestions?

Check your owners manual, theres probably 2 fuses for the low beams. One for left & one for right side.

I knew I forgot to mention something. I checked them all, and fuses are all ok (specifically 4 and 8 I recall).

have you checked the return (ground) at the harness. You may have a break in the wire? If you have 12VDC there then the bulb should work, sounds like it is not completing the circuit.

Yours might be different, but heres what the wiring diagram for a 97 shows.

Fuse 4 is wired to the dual filament-high & low beam-bulb on a white/light green wire & the bulb has a common ground.

If yours is wired the same the white/light green wire is open somewhere.

You should be able to find an online wiring diagram for an 01 at autozone.com

Welp, that's what I'm guessing. There's probably a short in the white/lt green wire. I've temporarily ran a wire from the other headlight to the white/lt green wire closer to the headlight and low beam comes on. Not sure if that other headlight circuit can take the extra load. But it looks like it'll have to work until I have time to figure out where that short is.

Thanks for the help, by the way.

As long as the fuse does'nt blow that sounds like a good temporary fix.

On the 97 theres a connector under the dash, that would be a good place to check for voltage on the W/LG.

If it's good there it's open under the hood somewhere.

Good luck with it.
