Is it possible on a 2001 F250 Supercab 4x4 XLT to have keyless entry via a key fob and not the keypad? Is there a manual way to verify it. I have seen in other places on this website where you do the Instrument panel hokey pokey (key on , key off, key on honk horn, etc etc) and I can never quite give myself that warm fuzzy feeling that I did it correctly to prove or disprove I have the ability to purchase and use the key fobs. Any ideas or knowledge on this topic? Thanks ahead of time.
You can get Keyless entry put in most vehicle and you don't have to have the keypad.
Last week I took my daughter's 02 Corolla (base model) and had an alarm system and keyless entry installed. She just got the two front doors put on the keyless because the 2 back doors would have cost another 140 bucks and she rarely uses the back doors.
Several options can be programmed into the keyless entry and she likes having the doors lock after you start the car and when you shut the car off the door locks unlock. As for confirming it, you see and hear the door lock buttons go up and down. You also get a confirmation chirp on tha alarm system. You can set the alarm without the chirp by pressing another button on the remote.
This is an Avital system , another quality product from DEI who also make Viper and Clifford and I believe the genuine Ford security and remote starter kits are made by DEI (Directed Electronics INC )

I should have been more specific. I meant....is there a more physical way of verifying if the factory installed the ability for keyless entry key fobs and mine were just lost prior to me purchasing the truck. Thanks for all the info though Wrenchtraveller. You said the other two doors would have cost another $140. How much did it cost for just the front two (parts and labor)? I know the labor part could be a little different for everyone, just curious if I even want to pursue the original ford key fobs or not.
It was 200 bucks in Canada for parts and labour . Usually things are cheaper in the USA.
My 2000 XLT had keyless entry with no keypad and I thought the XLTs came that way.
Can a dealer using your VIN find out what options came on the truck? Good Luck.
Once things calm down around here (newly pregnant wife, new job, moving monday, new state etc...) I may go to a dealer and see what they can tell me. Or maybe I will finally find enough coordination to do the on, off, on, off thing correctly. $200 sounds quite reasonable. I am going to save this post and look into that company you mentioned, thanks.
