I have been looking at galleries enjoying everybodies trucks. It dawned on me that my truck might be a 65, when I have been assuming it was 64 as did the other owner.
My turnsignals are ABOVE the headlights. It is a custom cab and I think the faded decal says twin I beam. The pink slips says 1964, but I remember reading that the old system only took the year it was first sold. Certainly possible to buy the next years truck.
Here is the numbers.
F10DR589581
Body B81
Color M
Trans G
I apologize I am asking lots of questions, Trying to get a handle on shared parts/years and to know what I got!
I did get a copper oil pressure line and drove the beast on our private road with no incidents today . Will post to gallery by the weekend.
Coop
fordcoop,
tomsrod is right about what the serial number you posted says. It is a 65 but read on.
F10 = F-100 [2Wd GVW 5000#]
D= 352 cubic inch FE V8 engine
R= ? not sure
589581 = 1589th 1965 F-Series truck built in Sept' 1964. Probably built in 3rd week. Serial production numbers issued for September of '64 ran from #588000 thru #599999
The state in which it was 1st registered/ titled made a mistake by registering it when it was sold/ bought & not as what FoMoCo numbers say it is; IF Serial Number On right frame rail front extension, upper flange, matches number, on data plate. Plus if what BanjoPicker says above also applies to your truck.
Additional differences to determine all the above statements; is in a F100 64 the steering column bolt / mounting bracket is different than a 65/66 model as well as the instep at the doors is designed differently. The 64 & below F100 have a well defined instep inside the door entrance to the floor boards verse a 65/66 F100.
Another good way to view different styles is thru magazines & that good old e-ba site.
Just to add another 2 1/2 cents worth.
Don't feel bad most people would rather drive a '65 than a '64. Looks are more an issue of personal taste, to me '66 grilles look best. Check out some of the articles on disc brake swaps...for twin I beam trucks... congratulations and good luck with your truck.
For a quick reference of what year your F1/F100 is check http://www.fordfront.nl, go to "Naslag" where you can find small drawings of your Ford Front to determine what year it is. Off course the VIN nr. is ruling!
Lots of succes with your truck, Spiker.
Your truck is definately a 65...a very early one...August was the switchover month...It has a blue interior and a c/matic trans. White in color...wimboldon white...all in all...you got a good rig....enjoy....
