I,m building a 62 F100,with 04 crown vic IFS,4.6 eng & ,tranny. The eng/tranny are on the center line of the frame but the original 9 inch rear end is offset 3 inches to the right.I know some offset is normal but is 3 inches ok?
THANKS LARRY
Larry, I can't answer your question directly as I simply don't know if you can or you can't. All I can do is offer up this: You can swap to a car 9" and it has the driveshaft in the middle of the span. The difference is that the truck axles are actually very close to the same length, which offsets the driveshaft input on the chunk.
The car axles are one shorter,(driver's side) one longer, to get the driveshaft input where the tunnel in the floor a car is, in the middle.
I can also tell you this; my unibody has the exact opposite situation. The engine is offset to the passenger's side, like all Ford trucks. But it has a car rear end.
Seems to be OK, I never built it that way, the PO did, but I have no driveshaft issues.
