The flimsy pressed fiber(cardboard) glove box in my restored 78 F150 was getting pretty ragged and droopy so I started looking for replacements. Lo and behold, all I found for aftermarket glove boxes are more pressed fiber(cardboard) glove boxes, for at least $15 plus shipping. Tell me what you think about this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1866611881.
(That's ebay item 1866611881.)
I reinforced the cardboard with some thin wood, made the box 3" deeper (to get some extra room), and made a custom front with handle. I also added a battery cut-off switch. So, you could keep the old box, and just reinforce it. It works pretty well, and doesn't look bad with a wood finish on it.
Good luck and have fun!
