new engine, converting to automatic

My 1996 Bronco has 170,000 on it. It has a recently overhauled differential and a 1 year old clutch. It's a 5 speed manual transmission witha 5.0 liter engine. It's pretty much original and in really great condition. I am a one owner. I'm thinking ahead and would like to make it a stronger truck without altering much of it's originality. I don't 4 wheel but I do pull a 20 foot bass boat. I know Ford came out with a 5.7 liter engine in 1996. So what I was thinking was about the possibility of having the dealer install the 5.7 when it comes time to replace the engine and at the same time put in a new transimssion, I'd like to convert to an automatic transmission but don't know if that's possible. What else do I need to consider? Are these ideas feasible? Do you think having the dealer make the modifications is a good idea in my effort to retain it's original condition by sticking to Ford parts? I appreciate your ideas, suggestions and opinions.

Thanks,

Victor

I believe that the 5.4 was designed for the 97 modle year f150 much differnt body/frame? design if it is posable the modular 5.4 would be a nice upgrade to a Bronco.

what pipe are you smoken from he wasnt asking anything similar to what you just expressed.

first i would never suggest the dealer do anything to your rig. first they probably wouldnt even do it second if they did it would cost more then you bought that bronco for.

swaping to a 5.8 (351w) is pretty easy but you would need a lot of parts. go to a wrecking yard and find a complete 5.8 out of a 96 bronco/f150 or 97 f250. it needs to be complete from oil pan to upper intake. then find a reputable machine shop and have the motor gone thru. you can use the wiring harness from your 302 onto the 5.8.

now going to an automatic will require some rewiring and/or proper harness because the E4OD is electronic controlled by the ecu. Personally the automatic is nice but can be expensive to rebuild (1800-2500) . upgrading the manual you have to a zf 5speed manual would be the better way to go. give you the best performance and better mpg compared to the auto.
this is all doable but could be expensive if you have a shop do the work. the engine is the easy part, the tranny swap going to an automatic could be the more difficult.

He was asking about the new engine that came out in 97 5.4L modular I thought.
The 5.8 has been around for ever and it sure looks like he was asking about a new engine that came out in 96

No arguments about having a dealer do any mod though

for the bronco which either had a 5.0 or 5.8. a 5.7 is a chevy 350ci. easy to get confused
