Question

Does anyone know how much hp and torque a 1996 5.7 liter vortec has? Because im thinking about buying a 96 silverado(dont try to talk me out of it because i love that engine from past experiences)

I think that the 350 Vortec produces 250 hp and 330 lb/ft of torque. I have some experience with 350 Vortecs and TBIs, and they are great motors. The TBI motors are more efficient and seem to have more low end grunt, though.

The TBIs were only making about 210 hp and 280-300 ft./lb. of torque. Not very impressive by today's standards. Sounds like the Vortec models got a LOT stronger.

They may look better on paper, but there is not too much difference when they are actually driven. The TBI will pull just as well as the Vortec, although the Vortec will win in a race. My dad owns a pickup with each, so I know what I am taking about.
