Sounds as though the HU is dead. Only way to really test is with a different HU and see if it works correctly.
Also make sure that the antenna wire that plugs into the HU in the back of the unit is secure and not grounding out to any metal.

I would yank the head unit out, and try temporarily attaching a different antenna, that is, if you have enuf wire to operate the radio while it is hanging out of the dash. It must be a bad antenna or the circuitry inside the radio is bad.

The antenna mount is grounded, but a working antenna temporarily plugged into the back of the radio and held in your hand will give you enuf signal to check your reception.
Checking the antenna is the first step, two reasons: The antenna is cheap, even at Ford dealer prices, less than 50 dollars, also it is easier and cheaper to replace than the head unit
