Dash Lights

I have a 78 Ford and had a burnt out light in the dash. I changed the light and afterward had no lights at all. I thought maybe I had accidently unplugged a wire. I found a wire that is hot only when the lights are on but can't figure out where it plugs in. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? How is are the dash lights fed, through a harness or individual wire? The Ford dealer wants to pull the whole dash out at $70.00 an hour. Must be a better way to find the problem.

I think they are fed from the plastic connector where it plugs into the cluster. Look in back of the connetor to see if might have slipped out.

on the back of the dash, there's only one connector, and the speedo cable.

Changed one of the small lights mounted in a quarter-turn socket. I had a light out in the right hand section of the dash. After changing just that light, the whole dash went out.

Have you ever had your dash apart? Is there some kind of a printed circuit card that feeds the individual light since they are all just quarter turn sockets for each light. Are the wires wired in hard to the socket or are they plug in type.

Its a one piece circuit board. The bulb socket is a twist and turn to remove. The gauge cluster is very easy to remove.
