i'am putting a stage 1, 6 inch pro comp lift in my 1991 F150 Lariat i was told that i might be better off going with a stage 2 because it comes with a longer set of radius arms. i'am told that with the stage 1 the shorter arms have a tendency to crack the frame. i was just wondering if this was true or if anyone has had any problems with it? Thnx in advance
Yes it is true. It could crack the frame rail where the drop radius arm bracket bolts to the frame.
They're talking about two choices....the stock radius arms using a new bracket to drop the end of the stock radius arm.
The other is using the stock radius arm bracket but with a longer radius arm. The longer arm has enough movement that you don't need a drop bracket.
Since the drop bracket moves the end of the radius arm further away from the framerail, it adds leverage to the forces it applies to the framerail. This can cause it to crack.
Typically, those kits are made for people who wanted a lift kit and don't really drive it hard off road. It's more of a mall cruiser kit. If you flex that suspension often, it'll be putting a lot of stress on that framerail and could crack it.
WOAH! WHAT! I installed a kit with drop radius arm brackets not too long ago... I didnt know that! Is there any way that I can prevent my frame from cracking?
Weld the bracket to the frame, and don't articulate the suspension off road a whole lot
Best thing to do, would be to buy the extended radius arms and put the stock brackets back on. It looks a heck of a lot better too, I like how you can see the red radius arms in my suspension.
I have red suspension components and I carried that through to the 393's red dress up stuff. Gallery.
