I did post this in the engine swap forum to round up some other info. I figured that hopefully theres some electronic gurus in here that could give me some advice. I have a whole donor 88 truck with this motor and everything complete in it. I have a complete running 79 f150 4x4. I have seen a vague how to on this, but it never touched on anything specific on the wiring. I need to know whats the best way to adapt the computer and wiring into my truck. Is the ECU just basically powered from the fuse box, then self sufficient with itself and motor end of things? I was never really great with EFI electronics, but am learning that they are more simple then i had first assumed. Please feel free to throw out ideas as to my best way to go about this opperation based on your system knowlege.
Also, i can see possibly having issues adapting the factory efi fuel pumps into my truck, so im open for suggestions to this area as well...possibly adapt a good aftermarket pump in place of low and high pressure pumps? any info is muchly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian
If the tanks won't fit your truck, then it would be easier to get a frame mounted pump like an Mallory, Aeromotive, or something. Just be sure to put a filter before the pump and mount it lower than the fuel level so it can gravity feed.
Excelent, im going to try to fit the center rear tank in, we'll see on that. How about a really good wiring diagram for this truck, 88 F250 2wd 460 auto. I can find good mustang ones, but none that show me a really good picture of the main engine/ecu wiring.
Thanks for the help
Brian
I'm using the rear tank from the 96' F-250 donor truck and the "main" tank from 95' F-150 SWB. My truck is a 77' F-150 SWB. The rear tank fits fine. You may have to tweak the seam flanges a little to get it in the hole. But other than having the in tank EFI pump I need, for all practical purposes it's identical to the 77' tank I pulled out.
The 95' era main tank is a different story. It "almost" fits right, but not close enough. Some modification of the x-members is needed to get it to tuck up and hang right. Nothing too major though. The forward x-mem needs the most attention. The rear x-mem is actually a pretty decent fit. Once thats ironed out, you can figure where to cut slots in the x-members for the stock tank straps.
I'd show you some pictures, but my front tank isn't completely done yet.
