Well I've been thinking about buying a drop down screen (10" or so) so I can take it apart and get the screen from it, and then flush mount it into a custom console. Now.. how to go about this? Anybody know if there's a 10" touchscreen with VGA input?
Yea I've been reading into it for a while. What I'm thinking is a mini case with a 160GB hard drive, and 512MB ram and a DVD-ROM. Then have it set up to hybernate when the engine is turned off. Then load it up with MP3's and put in a premium sound card and nice video card. Then have one of those thumb keyboards and with the VGA controls with the touchscreen I could use that as my mouse. But I think I should concentrate on getting the audio all done first. I already have an Eclipse 4/3/2 amp that puts out 55x4@4/105x4@2ohms and Eclipse full ranges, and a cheap Eclipse sub that came with the amp. Planning on adding some high end component speakers to the mix. Also my whole truck.. excluding roof.. has been sound deadened. Used Peel & Seal, this stuff works great. I did this and all I can say is wow.
They have quite a bit of info as to what they use on their car cpu's and why. I was going to go this route instead of my AVIC-N1 but didn't think it could stand up to the abuse and jarring of going off roading, etc.
ok, there is only on main problem with these rigs.... most power supplies/invertors dont work right. invertors can cause static in the sound / and or fail under the computers load.... i made a custom power supply for my truck for a pc and it also failed under the differing power output on the system by the alternator... i just gave up after that.... but i would reccomend a touch screen monitor and mabey a laptop, that would be the easiest way... then just plug the laptop in and remote mount a switch and remote mount the screen and ur done..
Well I'm gonna upgrade to a 180 amp alternator and Red-top Optima so I don't think I would have much of a problem with powering it. I don't think I'd be going offroad much, and I'd use the shock-resistant stuff.. and if I decide to go offroad I could always just do a shut down.
Got to thinking again.. this would be also good for when I swap in a 302.. I could hook my computer up and skin the program to my likings, but I could have digital RPM, MPH, fuel/air mixture, oil pressure, and all the temps gauge. Just run a certain program and install a certain PCI card and I'd be set! Muahaha!
yes, but u still need to find an invertor that wont react wierd to the constant switching of the power supply... my invertor failed and also made alot of noise over my speakers when i did a test... so i scrapped the idea... i would reccomend just buying a cheap laptop and a touch screen monitor that will remote mount, then its easy to rig up...
oh, i bought a red top awhile back, damnnnn they are nice... i can run my whole sterio amp and all for a couple hours and then, turn key and it will start.... im really gonna like it this winter
as for my other trucks, we have red tops in all our farm trucks as they only run for mabey 20 min a day in the winter and our tractor and combine both have them in them
