77 ford F100 won't start :o(

I needs some help!!I have a 1977 f-100,with a 302,auto transmission.
Okay, here's the scnerio. When I turn the key to start the truck.Nothing happens,no click, nothing. It has a new battery, new ignition switch, new solnoid switch. But make no attempt to start.
Okay, when I turn the key to start and go under the hood and touch the contacts from the solnoid to each other it turns over.So I guess the starter is working fine. And an other thing is.I can dont shift it anymore. It will not come out of park. All this has happened while the truck was setting up for a couple of weeks.I went to start it,and nothing. Then I started to play with the shifter(which is on the coloum) it would not come out of park. Can that also have something to do with it? I'm confused.Any help would be greatly appreciated. And what is the best way to get that sterring wheel off if I have to ?
Thanks a bunch.

most likely its your neutral safety switch, or more specifically the rod that runs down the colomn to the switch has probably become disengaged. You can pull the switch (under the dash on the top of the colomn) while the wires are still attached(if it is the same as my 76- do a search) and then hold the switch to the neutral position while you turn the key. I rigged mine because the rod was MIA and the previous owner had put a wire tie in there to hold it in the starting position.
Do a search- people smarter than me walked me through the possibilities when mine wouldn't start.

Neutral safety switch or shifter / switch adjustment. Mine does this once in a while, brake light comes on when I turn the key, but no starter turning. Sometimes I have to push the column shifter a little more towards park or pull a little towards reverse to get it to start.

Joker,
I believe the neutral safety switch on a 77 is on the tranny not the column. If you can't shift it, you've got a problem in the column. Check the linkage between the column and tranny and see if its binding at the shifter arm on the tranny.
Let me know what you find.
