You can also drill a hole on either side of the cat in the pipe and feel the pressure coming out when the engine is running. If you can feel extra pressure before the cat, but not after, that's an indication that it's plugged. Then weld it back up.
You may not have to buy the $197 version...just because it has two outlets and is huge doesn't mean you need to replace it with the same thing. The goal here is to reduce emissions, those inlets are probably thermactor inlets. I think my F-250 has the same thing. As long as oxygen is being pumped to the cats you should be good.
