Not sure what years this applies to, but 65' and 66' for sure. The question is relative to the inside door handle. What is the proper orientation? I have mine pointing straight down. But I've had several passengers that couldn't figure it out(doesn't say much about the folks I hang out with). But it makes me wonder how they came from Ford.
Mine points down and as far as I know my dad or grandfather never had a reason to remove them and it has always been in the family. I too notice people having problems figuring them out.
I'll bet if you traveled back into time it all depended on the day of the week as to what way they were installed. Friday could have had one up and one down.
I am pretty sure they were down. I have been opening the doors on my truck for 35 years, perhaps before that as well when mom and dad weren't looking. Seems to me they were always down.
Parallel to the ground pointing forward would seem quite dumb -- any accidental push from the top, like crossing a leg or maybe even an errant bag of groceries in an emergency stop could open the door. Pointing back would be safer, but then it would be awkward as all get out, IMHO.
I never even thought about the orientation of the inner door handles until this thread came about. Mine are different on each door. Drivers door is down and a little forward. Passenger is down and back (around 8 o clock). Of course I think the p.o. of this truck was either stupid or on drugs....well if he was on drugs he'd be both.
I think Cdherman is right. Especially about the dumb parallel thing. Down and slightly back makes for an almost natural positioning for the human arm and hand. I can't see how anyone even nowadays could have trouble figuring out how to work an old truck door handle. Unless of course they are set parallel to the ground.
