Hey all.. i'm having some problems starting this new to me 94 F250. The WTS light goes off after a few seconds but i get a solenoid clicking randomly for about 20 seconds (20 or 25 clicks). i am assuming this is the relay for the glow plugs?? the truck is hard to start in the morning even on these hot days.. if i restart the truck after it has warmed up i still get the solenoid click but only for a few seconds (5 or 6 clicks).. the relay appears to have been replaced recently.. wiring checks out good .. i haven't inspected the glow plugs... any suggestions are welcome here .. thanks...Lars
may want to check the glow plugs themselves. You can do a resistance test with a meter, or use a test light and hook the ground to the terminal on the glow plugs, then touch the other end to the positive side of the battery and see if it lights up. If it does, the glow plug is ok. It sounds like a few may have gone south on you.
Sounds like the controller i working as required, you should do a check of the Glow Plugs. Using a test light connected to battery power, remove the GP electrical connector and touch the tip of the GP, if the light works GP is ok if not GP is bad. As many as 1-2 bad GPs will cause considerable changes in GP controller ops.
Replacing GPs can be dangerous in that some brands swell (Autolite and Chumpion) and their tips will break off and fall into the cylinder on removal, requiring head removal........NO they will not pass out the exhaust valve at high RPM.
