Problems indentifying Block Casting Number...help!
I've got a hard question for you guys today and hopefully somebody will have the answer. I got a 67 bronco that's currently be restored and we've found certain things that have made us believe this is not the original engine. We've looked everywhere on the engine that people have told us but came up with nothing...except under the starter on the engine block. The question to everyone is the casting numbers don't match up with anything...we do however believe it's either a 289 or 302 because of the firing order on the back of the block but not sure based off number which one it is. Here are the numbers maybe someone can decipher them for us.

I highly doubt its a O0AE-6015. Ford uses the Alphabet to represent the years, A=1940, B=1950, C=1960, D=1970, E=1980, F=1990. O hasn't been reached yet
, More than likley you have a D0AE-6015 which is a 1970 Automobile block, if were a D0TE-6015 it would be for a Truck block.

my guess is the first character is a D, not an oh or zero. that would make the part a 1970 casting and not the original part for a 67 year vehicle. not sure when ford quite producing the 289 and if they produced the 289 and 302 during the same years. i believe ford began producing the 302 in 1968. i would guess it's a 302 block but i know that doesn't help you much! ford increased the stroke to get from a 289 to a 302 so i don't think there is much difference between the blocks. cheers, garsten

If it's a 302, you will find "302" cast in the lifter valley (under the intake). All 302's had this. It will be about 80 years from now before they start using "O" in the casting number, so it has to be a D, or a C with crap on it.
