Trans Temp Guage Install

2004 E350 w/4R100 transmission

I purchased the Autometer trans temp guage and plan to install the sensor in the test port on the trans, as suggested around these parts. Various posts here say that the port is on the driver's side of the trans near the shift linkage.

I've looked around that area and do not see a likely suspect. Can anybody post a picture or direct me to a diagram that shows where it is located? Also, when accessing this port will I loose trans fluid in the process? Should I plan on having extra fluid on hand when doing this to top off with?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have a pic, but the port is on the driver's side, towards the front of the trans. It's about an inch above the pan. There is a black hex head plug in it. You'll lose an ounce or two of fluid at the most.

It's just in front of the braket that holds the shift cable.
