Hey, not going to say yeh or ney, would say ney for a thought. Much more heat made by the 390 than the I6. I have a 78' 150 with a 400. I was running into overheating problems. Tried EVERYTHING. Could not stop the over heating. Spent the money to purchase a brand new radiator. Not rebuild. Also bought a new shroud from Ford. Prolem solved. With a 185 stat. She runs at 165 to 170 while driving. 185 -195 while at idle with a/c on. As Toruqe1st says Fix it right the first time.
Positively not. You will need at least a 400 radiator 3 or 4 core. You don't say if it was a 2WD or 4WD. I believe the 4WD will take a taller radiator. Most 300-6 radiators are 2 core if I remember right. Somebody here may have better info.

well i just found a radiator out of a 2wd 77 F250, i checked the vin code, and it had a 460, this should be plenty of radiator right, will it work in my 4x4,
I have an F100 2wd with a 300, and it hardly has enough radiator to keep itself cool as it is during the summer. I would think a radiator out of a 460 truck should be great for you, but in search of putting a new radiator into my truck, it looks to me like the heavier-duty trucks have a different core support and radiator mounts, but I could be wrong on that. And I don't know if, since your truck is a F150 4x4, it might have a larger radiator to start with.......
The LD stock 300 radiator is too small. If you have a 4X and a HD motor, then you may have one of the supercooler rads. You should find a shroud too. The fan won't be near as close to the radiator as the 6 was.
