I'm getting ready for a trip hauling a trailer and I'm concerned about keeping the engine cool. I read about "Super Cooling" requirements for hauling big loads and I know I'll have big hills and hot temps. I've not hauled anything heavy.
A friend at a tranny shop recommended a 3 or 4-core radiator upgrade to increase coolant volume. I assume my 94 Bronco has only 1 "core" (OEM EOTZ8005AR, "8005")? How can I know many "cores" I've got or if it's "super cooling"? I know my A/C condensor is in front of the radiator and that the radiator is a horizontal flow with tanks on each end.
I looked online and found a 1-row core for $160.95 and 2-row core for $128.95.
Anyone help and give a recommendation on upgrades? Thansk.
No tow package. Yes, I've considered the ATF cooler as well, but aren't there two separate issues? Block vs. Transmission ... I guess the transmission is more susceptable to fail? I'll look into it, thanks for your advice.
Go with both...block and tranny. Get the cooler, but then get rid of your engine powered fan. Change out to dual electric fans. Opens more HP and pulls more air.
I checked and it is written that electric fans will free up 17HP and an additional 20ft lbs of torque,(at the wheels), plus increase mileage. Here is the site on it... http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/ford-truck.html
Why pay $300 when you can get one from the taurus's ($20-$30) that do the same exact job from a salvage yard? Sure you have to do a little leg work in regard to getting the temp probes and relays but still alot less expensive. Major cooling as opposed to the stock mechanical fans. Let me know if you need info. Be glad to pass it on to you if interested.
Flex fans are not my favorite. They pull more power then needed. I used to have a flex fan on my Bronco, and every time I would hit the gas it sounded like a jet engine. I hated it.
Yeah, that can be anoying, but I'm wondering if they work (improve cooling/efficiency). I'll give it a whirl but may look at an electric down the road. Were you able to keep the fan clutch on w/the flex fan? Thanks.
