1991 Ignition Control Module
In a 1991 F-150, my ignition control module seems to be over the driver's
side valve cover, which is different from either the fender well or inside
the distributor. This seems to be a changeover period, as earlier models
have the ICM in the distrubutor, and later models have it on the inside
of the fender, with a heat sink (important!).
Last year mine went out, long from home, and in front of a Chevy dealer.
I had them put a new one in. Now, 9 months later I'm again away from
home, driving in 100 degree heat, and I get the same exact problems.
After a cooling off period (going through the hassle of being towed, etc.)
3 hours later the truck runs fine and takes me 1.5 hours to home, with
no changes.
Anyway, I seem to have a questionable ICM, which has failed at high ambient
temperature.
Are there any high quality aftermarket parts for this? Accel, MSD? Is there a
way to move this to the fender? Heat sinks? Maybe I just need to take it
out and reassemble with dielectric grease?
