Driving home tonite, my '94 302 started hesitating slightly. Wasn't sure if it was gonna make it home. Well, it did, but by that time, it was running real rough. Couldn't see much b/c it was getting dark, but I did see a small puddle of what looked like water - maybe drippeing from the cross member. So I looked on top, and it was a barely wet on top of behind the fan. Water pump? Didn't show any signs of getting hot, no dummy lights, and the temp stayed steady and good. Where to go from here???
OK, looked into it better this a.m. Leak is coming from a small rubber hose above the water pump, behind the fan, etc. Not sure of it's official title, but it's about 5" long and looks like it runs to the throttle body - held on by hose 1" hose clamps?? It started dripping, then squirting coolant once pressure built up. I cut the hose, and inside was a bit of sludgy looking crap. That tells me a flush is in order - but what causes the sludge-like stuff?
So, I've got the leak part figured out (at least this cog of the works). Now, what would cause the truck to run rough? It didn't overheat or even close to it. I was thinking it maybe sprayed coolant onto the distributor?, or onto the serp. belt??
