351 V8 Question

351 V8 Question
Hi All,
I have a 1993 F250 with a 351 V8 in it and am getting horrible gas mileage and I am wondering if anyone happens to have a pic of their 351 or expanded view diagram of it.
The reason being is I need to see something that I think is missing that may be the problem. On the driver side right above the oil fill cap is a black round thing for lack of a better word and out of that is a male stem and when you put your finger on that stem it has a vacuum pull. I am wondering if there is a hose that comes off that and goes somewhere and because of that my check engine light is on and I am getting terrible mileage.
My buddy is a Ford mechanic and said the EGR solenoid needs to be replaced when he worked on it 2 months ago but I am wondering if the EGR solenoid and this black thing missing a hose could be the cause of bad gas mileage and check engine light coming on.
This is my 1st truck and I thank everyone in advance for any and all help.

Bad EGR valve will definitely affect your mileage. Is the round thing attached to a hose going into the base of the oil fill tube? If so, it's supposed to have a plastic tube going to the base of the airbox. You could use large vaccuum hose for all of it I suppose.

that black deal is a breather so fresh air can enter the motor. it should have a hose running to the side of the air box.
your bad mileage could be egr and more. i would pull the codes and give it a tune up with new plugs,wires,cap/rotor and fuel filter. might also change out the O2 sensor if its been awhile. all of those things will affect mpg
