Was told to try here after buggin the guys in offroad. In a nutshell, I have no clue what engine I have in my truck. Was told when first bought a 390, then thought 400 from the 4x4 guys, and it goes on from 351c to 302. A tow truck driver told me today after lookin at it, its a windsor. I searched the site and found you can't really tell, it seems, without measuring the crank/bore I think. I'd just like to get an idea if possible what it most likely is so I can find out and plan any mods. Pics will help and I'll have them up tonight. I did find some more stamped #'s on the front/driver of my block this mornin from cleaning it, and it reads:
29
352
C8ME is a FE casting number. And in your other post as described the valve cover with 5 bolts is correct for a FE. The FE's have the head and intake butt to each other under the valve cover. Unlike some others that just cover the head alone. The 5E15 I'll be is a 8E15 if you take a better look. This is the date code and would be 68/May/15th. The 8 may be distorted a little to resemble a 5 possibly. Plus the C8ME is a 68 and later block. Can't have a 68 block with a 65 date code lol. Take out a spark plug and stick in a lenght of stiff wire. Rotate to TDC mark the wire then BDC and mark again. Measure the points between. A 3 1/2" would be a 3.50 stroke 352/360. 3 3/4" or 3.78 a 390 and 4" or 3.98 a 428 stroke C8ME was used on quite a few differnet block castings with different bores. So the crank stroke will help determine what displacement FE you have. G.
I wanted to do it but we were really busy today. Might have to wait till tomorrow or later tonight to get a friend to come and make sure I crank it to tdc and bdc. Got pics uploaded in gallery. Not the best but still a visual. Thanks
after looking in your gallery, i saw the badge on the door with the vin. The y indicates that you SHOULD have a 360 2bbl. But I would want to verify this, i think pulling the oil pan is good because you can see the marks on the crank and not decide am i measuring the stroke right.
