Late 90's explorers

I think I am going to look for a older 90's explorer to replace my current daily driver 98 escort. I have a 01 Mustang GT that does not get much use, so i will be using the explorer for most of my driving. I want to spend under 4k so I know its going to have high mileage. What are some things i should watch out for with these older explorers?

If you're spending under 4K, I assume you are looking at the generation 1 (91-94) Explorers. Things to look for are: radius arm bushings, rust in rear rockers and wheel wells, 4WD engagement, and transmission... transmission... transmission. The ATs seem to start having problems in the 150-175K range.

If you can get a 95 or higher for the same price go for it, as the they don't have radius arm bushings, and it's a better trans.
