I am going to change all my oil over to synthlic. My diffs call for 80w90 but thats not made synthlic in 80w90, so I have a problem here what oil do I use? 75w140 or 75w90 boths are good for gl5 and hypoind.
In general the lower viscosity oil will give slightly better mileage but the thicker(140) oil may protect you better under heavy load or heat. Like towing.
Synthetics almost don't care as far as heat range etc. I'd probably go with the 75W90 since yours calls for 80W90is gives you slighterly better(low temp) range than the 80w90. W is the winter rating and tells you how the oil will act at some frozen wasteland temperature. Not much difference between 75 and 80w.
It is also possible you might need limited slip additive, if you have limited slip.
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson
There is another thread on 75W90 vs 75W140. Might be worth a peek.
