could it be that one hole was drilled too large??..allowing the filter minder to slip thru the hole too easily??what was the size of the hole boydz used??..
I think I remember reading a post over at TDS by someone who checked the vacuum several different places in the intake, and the vacuum was much higher in the intake tube than in the air box. I suspect the indicator placement is your problem.
A "too-large" hole would only cause a leak, not excessive (apparent) vacuum.
The hole in the original filter box on my 2000 was about .710" (18mm), but if everything's snug, there shouldn't be any leak. Put some grease or RTV around it if you believe you've got a leak.
There is definetly no leak around the indicator. I drilled a 3/4 " hole which is close to the right size.
I think it is more a location problem than anything.
I am still wondering why my stock tubes wernt long enough to make it to the new filter without adding the pvc elbow.
Does anyone else have this problem and had to add an extender piece to the plenum ?
I've got an early '99 PSD with the 6637 filter hooked up. I used a 22 degree PVC elbow to connect the filter to the intake tube. I then drilled my hole for the Breathalizer right into the PVC. So the tester is actually about 2 inches away from the filter in the intake tube. I haven't had any problems, in fact it was reading around the 75% mark. So I replaced the filter and reset last week. I can't remember what size hole I drilled, but I know it was a very tight fit. If you can hear the turbo spooling faster, I highly doubt the filter is causing a problem.
My truck is a 2000 F350 CC LBI wonder if I had a 99 motor or something becasue I definetly needed the extension.
Finally,
Sounds like you and I have the exact same setup as far as connections and placment of the "Breathalizer"
I dont have any problems just cruising but when I build some boost it sucks that thing right in.
Ill move it and see how that works
No, nothing, performance-enhancing. Just the mods listed on my signature, all of which shouldn't really increase performance very much.
I wonder if you mounted the FilterMinder in such a way that the air rushing past the sensor's port creates a venturi effect? Thus vacuum, that isn't really there in the airstream, is being seen.

Pop is exactly right. Air rushing past the pickup of the Filterminder will give a false vacuum indication. Go look at the original truck Filter box setup. The Filterminder is mounted where the air does not rush past the pickup inside the filter box. It is located off to the side of the main air stream leaving the filter box heading for the turbo. When Pop drilled the back end of the 6637 he installed the pickup where there is almost no air movement except the air going in through the filter media at that very end of the filter. That 6637 has about four times the filter media area as the original equipment filter. There is NO way that the 6637 will generate more vacuum than the original filter. All our experience is just the opposite; the 6637 filter offers a lower pressure drop and therefore more air supply than the original setup, and we get more turbo boost, a little more power, and a lot longer filter life. Besides, as some of us have discovered, the direct connection of the 6637 to the turbo hose eliminates the leaks around the top of the original filter box, which let unfiltered air bypass the filter and go directly to the turbo. Not a good thing.

Well,
I switched the location last night and did a couple of 24lb of boost runs
The filterminder didnt move in the slightest bit so Im convinced that placment is everything - LOL
I guess you learn something everyday
Thanx Pop
You betcha'! We're all in this community together, to help one another out. I'm just glad I could help with valid information.
I've received plenty of help here, too. How else would I even know about the 6637? Give and take. Deposit, withdrawal. There's something out there that you know a heck-of-a-lot more about than I do.
It'll come up someday.
You didn't say where you re-mounted the FilterMinder. On the end of the filter?

yeah
I remounted it in the same location as you did. Seems to make the most sense there. I originally mounted in the elbow thinking it would look the best there and be the easiest to read but I guess the prettiest location isnt always the best .
I installed the 6637 filter today on my f-350.Sounds nice and the turbo spools alot faster.Theres just one question i have about it.I had to tie it down so it wouldnt rub on the brake oil resavor.I would think after a while it would wear the resavor,am i wrong.I will do the filter minder thing, good idea.
