I was wondering who ya'll liked to watch on the Nascar circuit? Im gonna hear it for this one but personally I'm a Jeff Gordon fan as well as a Wallace fan because I feel besides Earnhardt (god bless him) they have the most agressive driving styles. I love agressive driving, it's exciting and what I come to see, not some people going for a top ten just so they can win the cup. I like drivers who wanna win!
93' Ford F-150 4x4, 300 strait six, long bed, dual tanks, 135,000 miles and looks brand new! (accept for the tint and the big Ford sticker and the kenwood cd player)
Mark Martin, Ricky Rudd, Ward Burton (gotta love the accent) and Sterling Marlin. Jeff Gordon I love to hate but doggone it, he is GOOD. I think that Jeff is becoming a very good spokesperson for NASCAR and even though I don't mind it when he has a problem, I have to say he is very talented and may be perhaps the best driver out there.
I enjoy the spirit of the drivers and the challenges they face. For that reason I have no problem cheering for a nonFord driver.
Gotta love the start of the race. The National Anthem, a prayer and a flyover by the best of the US servicemen. Nothing else even comes close.
Hi, RICKY RUDD I've been rooting for that car since before Texaco even sponsered it when Davey allison started driving it. been rooting for a long time without a win though need to pump a little something into that team!!! John
I may be a little partial but any driver that drives a ford must be the best! but my personal favorite is Jeremy Mayfield. i think that Gordon should just leave now before he angers me any more.
I have a huge amount of respect for all of those guys. It takes a lot of guts and skill to drive 200+ mph down the straightaway then turn left at the end.
I've followed Gordon since he was literally a kid racing midgets on ESPN Thursday Night Thunder. Even if you hate him he's easily the most talented driver on the circuit. I just can't help rooting for him. As far as Ford drivers go I'm partial to Mark Martin and Jeff Burton. Martin is probably the toughest little SOB out there and Burton is very level-headed and says what he thinks even when Helton and his cronies have brainwashed or bullied the rest of the drivers into toein' the party line. Rusty Wallace OTOH is the biggest whiner on the circuit and Dale Jarrett needs to grow a personality.
I havn't found her yet. She is not married (this excludes the current Cup driver, although since she drives a ford I am definately rooting for her) and drives like a bat outa that land below. Does anyone know of any Bush, ARCA or lower prospects that fit this bill so I can start rooting for my favorite driver.
Current fatasy league team. Kenseth, Sadler, Rudd, Bush, and (isn't he really a ford driver) Elliot.
Team Ford and a Dodge leads my cousin's team "ugly car" 75 to 78.
My cousin by the way has driven Ford trucks longer than me so I can't explain why he roots for ugly cars.
It is a fun way to to watch the races and keeps you interested in 10 drivers no matter their position. We have a case of beer riding on it so......
I give credit to all those drivers who basically sacrifice 95 percent of their personal lives to race on the weekends, do magazine interviews, set up the cars, travel many frequent flier miles 9-10 months per year, and perform other sponsor - related tasks during the week. Even when they're not racing, they're always in the public spotlight. My personal favorite drivers are Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, the other Roush drivers, and anyone who can take Jeff Gordon out of the race.
As far as Dodge's entry into Nascar, I think it is a good thing. They can keep the Chevys and Pontiacs busy while the Fords win the race (If the GM machines don't break down or crash 1st).
While I don't follow NASCAR, or any racing for that matter (haven't watched TV in 11 years), I would prefer any driver that consistently drives Fords! Also, I have read that these drivers skills are much like those of jet fighter pilots.
C'mon folks, let's get real here. Does anybody really think that the drivers give a rat's behind what engine or sheetmetal is on the car as long as they can win races with it? Rusty Wallace switched from a Pontiac to a Ford, Bill Elliot went from Ford to Dodge, Sterling Marlin went from Chevy to Dodge, Johnny Benson went from Pontiac to Ford, Bobby Labonte went from Chevy to Pontiac...the list goes on & on. Entire teams switch from one make to another. It's a big gamble based on what rules NASCAR makes which may or may not give 1 make an advantage over another. A good driver with a good team will win regardless of what badge is on the front of the car. The way NASCAR writes the rules no make is better than another for more than a very short period of time.
One last thing for all you Gordon detractors, you best be gettin' your beer o' choice ready to cry in when he passes Petty and Earnhardt with his eighth Winston Cup championship in a few more years...
Yes they do care what emblem it has on the car. If you asked Elliot he would say that it was a very hard decision for him to leave the Ford family after so long.
He went to Dodge because he was quiting the driver owner gig and it was the best team opportunity, especially since Dodge was willing to pump so much money and resources into a brand new team and was looking for a good veteran driver to back it up.
If you think it is just a logo on the car then what you don't realize is that although each team is building it's own car the Factory is the one spending major bucks and effort on design, engineering, wind tunnel, etc., and a lot of part's do still come from the factory. So they are dealing with Ford people, parts, and engineering on a regular basis. It is much, much more than a logo.
The fact that Nascar is constantly trying to keep thing's equal is why the Factory is important and there are not just 3 teams that win every race. Yes a good team has an advantage but an awful lot of driver's and team's go out each week realistically beliveing they can win. It is up to the team's and Factory to combat the other team's/Factory and Nascar to make sure they are not at a disadvantage when they hit the track.
I think the major motivation for every driver out there is having the best team for the next five year's, because that is at least how long it take's for a team to come togther and win a championship. They may make a lot of move's but unlike baseball you can't just throw a great team together halfway through a good season and win it all. You darn well better have your team hitting all 8 cylinder's before Daytona or you aren't going to win a championship.
"Diaper Boy" is a very good driver who raced for an allstar team. He has shown that he is a "very good driver" by coming back and winning with a largely new team although under the wing of the same bigger Hendrick team the whole time.
He has seen little adversity and has not seen the challenges that most of Nascar's great's had to deal with on their way up. He has a very long way to go before he can be compared to Petty, Yarboro, Pearson, Earnhardt, Waltrip, etc. etc. etc.
I think if any one of those driver's had the team and resources of Gordon at such a young age they would all have had 100 win's at the same point.
Whinny is a very good driver, but great, you must not know too much about Nascar's history. Time will tell on whether he is a great driver and yes he seem's to be on his way but we will see.
The Ford Emblem is more that a logo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ramblin62, you need to stop believing all the press releases you read. NASCAR is a business, it's all about the money and I guarantee you if Ford announced that they were pulling out of motorsports this year that not one driver would refuse to drive next year because he couldn't drive a Ford. The only reason that Ford stays in racing is to sell more vehicles...period. Otherwise it's nothing but a big expense for them. Sure Bill Elliott made some friends at Ford, he drove for them for over 15 years and they treat the drivers like gold. Does that mean he really cares what's under the hood or riveted to the roll cage? Hell no! Just as long as whatever combination he straps himself into gives him a shot at winning the race. Dodge will treat him just as well and he'll make new friends.
Man I'm sick and tired of you people saying that Gordon hasn't paid his dues. The man has won 3, count 'em 3 Winston Cup championships and he's not even 30 years old yet. He's gone toe to toe with some of the best and he's beat 'em. It's really a shame you can't handle the fact that someone so young can be so talented but that's your deal not his. The man is a 3 time champion and I'd say he has a pretty fair shot at #4 this year.
Don't even try to presume to preach to me about "NASCAR history". I've been a fan ever since I can remember, the days of Richard Petty, David Pearson, A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Cale Yarborough, I remember watching them all. I fail to see what "adversity" Petty, Earnhardt, et. al. weathered that Gordon hasn't. They've all crashed, they've all had bad days and good days. They're all champions...what else is there?
As far as the blue oval being more than an emblem, well you have your opinion and I have mine. It doesn't matter how many exclamtion points you put after it, it's still all about the dollar signs.
Adversity for #24?? How would you like to win a Winston Cup race and have half the crowd BOO you? If it were me I would be looking for a fast exit! Na, he's paid his dues, the rest of you are jealous because he doesn't drive a Ford.
I cheered and hollered for Ricky last weekend on the last 2 laps and when Gordon still was able to hold the lead I went ballistic (and not with joy)! Don't know what my neigbors thought about the whole thing. Didn't care either.
I will say that Gordon is a class act and has handled his sucess well and I have a lot more respect for him after most his team split and he put together another winning group. I don't dislike him personally and alway's root against him but when I went to my first Nascar race at Martinsville and all the fan's booed him I thought it was pretty pathetic. I'm all for booing somebody when they do something wrong but I thought that was pretty mean and definately a sign of poor sportsmanship.
But when I see the 24 start to smoke ... nobody smile's bigger.
If it can't be a Ford, go Dodge and Pontiac.
