Has anyone used Water Wetter from Red Line? It is an additive to the coolant. Tech description sounds like it might be a little insurance to keeping the temps down.
I will be using it in about two weeks- I agree, some good insurance especially when pulling a load up mountain passes at 90-100 degrees. From what I understand, Water Wetter is great stuff that is well known in the auto racing industry.
I used it in my truck, didn't notice any lower temps but it allows more surface adhesion of the water thus possibly helping prevent cavitation. I do not haul a trailer so I would be interested to hear if it keeps temps down when hauling, maybe a b4 & after scenario.
I’ve used Water Wetter in the race trucks for years, great stuff! Can’t see why I would need it in my PSD, 110* on the way home from Vegas yesterday at 90 MPH and couldn’t get the temp gauges (water & trany) to move off their normal reading.
I used water wetter in my roadracing bike. Worked great. However, it is not anti-freeze and is not a substitute for it. Fortunately we have few below freezing days here in So Cal - though there were a few anxious nights at a couple of the tracks where it does down there at night. I guess it must be good for a few degrees below freezing.
It apparently has lubricating qualities for the water pump and is supposed to help with heat transfer - though I couldn't tell you how much more effective it is than straight distilled water.
If you've got overheating problems I'd look for a different solution.
Thanks to all who replied. Do not have a overheating issue, but just wanted to do as much as possible to avoid one. Did a Google search on water wetter and found several tests some folks had done with gasers. My main goal with this product is to get the adhesion and avoid hot spots caused by the ERG system.
Although I've got an X-monitor, I do not have a REAL water temp gauge yet so probably will not be able to give a good before and after temp read out.
I was thinking about buying one of those personal cooler fans and putting it under my truck with a good 9v battery and some colored plastic strips for the fan so we can see it working.
Don't know much about Water Wetter, but Evans Waterless NPG+ coolant has been one of the best modifications I have done to my truck so far. If I was starting from scratch modifying my truck again, it would be the first thing I did.
And I've been using it in all of my vehicles for the past 6 years.
Would not drive without it, in particular during my trips up into the Piute mountains, via Mojave, CA.
