Unhappy Power seat problems

Just got an '04 Lariat with 50k+ miles in incredible condition considering the miles and that it belonged to a contractor but have recently found that the driver's seat doesn't want to work. If I unplug the large, main wiring assembly from the bottom of the seat and plug it back in it will sometimes work but not always. Once it is working I can move the seat back and forth, up/down, tilt, and even run both memory settings for about 15-45 seconds then it will fart out on me again. My father and I removed the seat and hooked it back up so that we could see everything on the bottom and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with any success in curing them before I drop some hard-earned cash into this that I'd rather put into new tires.

Sounds like the 14c708 memory module. All the commands go through that.
Or a bad ground.
The main switch is pretty simple, and has one hot and one ground going into it. The other wires are to the three motors, where reversing the signal reverses the motor travel.
This assumes that nothing in the power seat works after it quits.

There are three motors, as you noticed, with three sensers that report to the big module. The memory switches just send a ground activation signal to the 14c708.
So not much can go wrong with the three buttons on the side.

I put memory seats in my STX, but didn't hook up the memory, choosing to cut and splice the eight black wires from the switch to the module directly to the motors, the same way it's done on the non memory seats.

I just put the module in my junk drawr, and use the seats as if they were not memory, as the only adjustment I ever have to 'remember' is move it back four inches after the wife drives.

Chris my soulution to having to remeber to move the seatback after the wife drives my truck is simple. I do everything in my power to discourage that. for the simple fact I', 6'6 and she's 4'11 and that woman has to move EVERYTHING I wish like crazy that I had gotten the memory seats

I was thinking it was the memory module b/c we had ruled out any ground problems via continuity tests which all passed. More specifically I think it's one of the position sensors in one of the up/down motors in the front or rear of the seat b/c I can move the seat front/back all day but if I move it vertically or run the memory the seat quits. I really like the memory seats as does my wife for all reasons discussed in the other threads. If I have to bypass the memory module I will but if I can pinpoint the problem and replace a smaller component I'd love to have this thing in full working order while saving the cost of having Ford do it for me.

Thanks Chris for your input. It definitely validates my initial thoughts on this problem.

Wish you were closer, I could schlep the module over to your truck and we could try it. On these modules, they are marked to discard if dropped, so be careful with it.
I wonder about that senser thing, can't imagine what would be wrong with a senser that would shut down the system. You could try swapping two of the harnesses to the similar sensers and see if the problem 'switched position' with the swap?

If you have to convert to non-memory, just cutting and splicing the wires does the trick, thirty minute job with soldering iron.

Or drop me a private message if you turn out to need the module.
Best of luck
Chris
