I've seen people install the 6" KC lights behind the grille on these trucks and I think it looks pretty clean. I took a quick glance around the back side of the grille but I didn't notice anything really solid to mount the lights to. Fabbing up some brackets wouldn't be a problem, I was just hoping there was an easier way, something I couldn't see.
I'm good at fabricating, but I am limited in what I can do by the tools at my disposal. What I'd like to get is a Pro-comp Pro-runner light bar. But that's gonna be a while off if I go that way due to financial constraints.
I made brackets that hang it from the core support so they lights hang upside down. I have the bolts up through the plastic over the space between the grill and radiator. I've never really adjusted them I like where they are from the install but one guy put valcrow and a couple easy to get to screws so he could pull the grill out if he needed to. Go for it there awsome.
I did that on my Super Duty, but the problem I had was when I would go off-roading, they get dirty. THen, how do you clean them? I had to keep taking the grill out, what a pain. However, they do look sharp!
Well, I went ahead and put them behind the grille. I sure wish I would have known that grille support was fiberglass BEFORE I started drilling into it. My arms were itchy for a few. Anyway, finished pic posted in my gallery.
Looks good. Thanks for posting the picture, I've been wondering what it would look like with round lights (I have rectangular driving lights in the same spot). You did end up with the 6 inchers correct?
Maxium4x4: That's nice looking. I like that you don't add too much length on the front of the truck. That was my whole reason for mounting behind the grill instead of getting a light bar/brush guard.
V10f250: I've been using a wheel brush (basically bristles on a heavy duty pipe cleaner) then a bottle of distilled water to spray on them as a final rinse. This last time I used a small bottle with a little RainX washer fluid in it before I rinsed, maybe the bugs will come off a little easier next time.
