Rewinding videotapes

I know most people don't use videotapes much anymore, but do you have a special rewinding machine, or do you just use your VCR to rewind your videotapes?

I always used the VCR to rewind tapes...but that wasn't often. A rewinder is good for when you are trying to rewind a bunch of tapes. Like if you're cleaning out the closet full. I never felt it was necessary...

Word of caution about rewinders. Do not use a cheap one. They can stretch the tape when stopping. Good quality units (more expensive) slow down near the end of the tape, then stop. Like VCRs.

My VCR has an auto rewind (I think most do) when it gets to the end of the tape, but I don't use the VCR very often. My cousin who has a tv/vcr repair shop, tells me 90% of the vcr's he gets have streched out bands or broken gears from excesive RW/FF.

I have used a rewinder, than figured out that it is much easier just to rewind the darn tape before you take it out of the vcr or just let the auto rewind feature take care of it. Thank goodness for dvds.

I bought a rewinder when the built in rewinder on my VCR finally wore out. I thought about buying a new VCR, but we've already got 5 DVD players in the house (PC's and game systems included) so why bother to replace a dinosaur.
