Look - this is along the lines of what I was getting at......in Texas it's friggin HOT. I don't care what color your rig is. Crack the widows, get a sun visor, tint the widows - it's still HOT. Black rocks.
Has anyone ever walked out of a store, climbed in your buddies (non black) truck or car and have 'em go, "man I sure am glad this thing isn't black, it might be 160 instead of 150 in here."? Uh....no. Crank her up, fire up the a/c, roll down the windows to let it out and drive on.<O</O
Now I DO hear there is scientific FACT, proving that the PSD's are MUCH hotter then a DuraMax or Cummins.....DOH!
I've read where black (and other very dark colors) are the longest lasting paints. PPG and Dupont can add anything they want to the formula without it showing through or affecting the final color.
yes, black does look nice. it takes so much to get it perfectly clean, but takes so little to get dirty my personal truck is charcoal gray in color, and our black dump truck gets MUCH hotter in the sun. but my charcoal grey is leather inside so it heats the inside better. coolest combination- white and tan interior, which the two i hate most, i dont like white and/or tan. i love my charcoal gray and gray interior.
If you lived in the northern states, you'd WANT that dark interior JUST to absorb heat! That way, your truck interior would be only -15 instead of -25 degrees!
I once jumped into a Mustang and had my leather seats split all the seams due to the cold. Amazingly, the car started.
I agree with 2Gordons. We spend more of our time in the cold in the upper Midwest. Nothing is finer than to hop in the car in cool / cold weather and have the car already comfortable. Black also looks cool!
I have a black sd & when its hot & sunny its very difficult to keep the interior cool.I've measured the hood temp on a sunny day compared to a white truck sitting right next to it, the black hood was 30 degrees f. hotter.
I've had a black F-250 for the last 3.5 years which I just traded in last week for a 2005 White F-250.....In Florida, the difference is HUGE! I can't believe how much cooler this white truck is compared to the black one.
Not to mention, it always looks cleaner...You can't see all the water spots from the morning dew and rain.
