Just swapped out my AM/FM radio (stock with the XL), for an AM/FM/CD unit from a 2005 F250. Everything works fine, but - (always a but, isn't there?),
I noticed an extra connector on the pack of the CD unit that isn't on the AM/FM. Any idea what it's for? Perhaps rear speakers, aux inputs, etc? Anyone have pinout info?
Also noticed that two of the lower buttons are marked FF and RWD. So, how does a cd fast forward or rewind? Perhaps the extra connector was for a seperate Cassette unit? Also noticed the new unit has some functions the old one didn't - Speed Volume, autoset, among others. Can anyone shed some light?

Reason: typo
The CD does FF and RWD, it skips track audibly slowly and then fast after 10 seconds of pressing FF or RWD.
I'm not sure if you have the correct wire harness in the 2-speaker/AM-FM XL's. My truck came with a 4-speaker/AM-FM-Cassette so the swap to a CD player was easy.
Here's the pinout for a 2003, maybe it's the same on the 2005's?

Plug facing you, pin numbers. (That's the best I can do in a text editor, sorry. Use your power of poetic imagery...)
Speed volume is a cool idea: Turns the volume down as you slow down, and turns it back up as you speed up to account for road noise. Implementation is another story. I suspect that's why my mom's F-150's system cooked itself to death, always very warm over the player.
I have a 2005 f250 xl and added the 6 disc cd player. just go to the dealer and buy the two rear speakers and plug them in. my truck had the wiring in place with a plug connector that plugs onto the speakers. john

If your truck was equipped with rear audio controls and the DVD player, there is a harness that runs from the rear of the lower console under the carpet and up to the radio. This harness uses that connector and will only work with the two upper level radios. The AV system components are usually found in the Explorer, Expedition and the Excursion. Most external controls like the steering wheel controls use a network to function. The DVD system with the rear audio controls in the back of the console do as well but they have their own wiring.
Thanks for all the help, guys, I'll have to check to see if the wires are in the rear doors. There is no second connector beneath the dash, for sure.
'05 F250 XL, don't know the build date.
It may possibly be and AUX input, check to see if there is an AUX button on the front of the radio. I was told I could use that for satelite radio input on my radio. I have an 05 F-350 CC LB 4x4.
