I will be taking a 2WD C6 transmission and making into a 4WD C6 for my truck. I need some guidance and some advice on how to remove the parts from the 2WD trans. I know I have to take every thing out of the 2WD to change the output shaft. The tail shaft is easy to get off. What should I expect to be staring down as I remove the front cover on the transmission. Im a high school student and have access to my auto shop where we have some guys in another period who have an aprenticeship at the local Ford dealership so I may have some skilled persons at hand. Another thing I have is a clean work environment at school which I know I will need cause I want this to last me awhile.
Can we assume you have a 4WD vehicle with a non working C6 but a good transfer case? You want to replace the non working C6 in the vehicle and replace it with the pieces from the working C6?

My plan was to swap the parts like that but i've decided to just get a rebuild kit for my trans. Which still means I need to know how everything should come apart and go back together. I've had experience rebuilding an engine before so i'm literate so to say in taking things apart in a specific order. From what i've heard transmissions can be easy to rebuild but this will be my first time doing this. I want to be sure as I do this I wont break anything or get something wrong. I really want this to work the first time I do it.
As long as you go carefully, and make notes of what came out of where. These trannys can be fun to rebuild, and there is really not that much to them. I'd recommend getting a book for it, though.
Books are nice but you can get a nice video tape and CD with some tooling drawings from Badshoe Productions. There is something about seeing a part in color moving so you can see how it comes out that is real helpful. If you are in a shop class the whole class may be interested in viewing the video. You may or may not have a clutch spring compressor in the shop. There is a drawing on how to make one with the video.
The Video can be purchased on eBay (search on "ford c6 video") and it may be available at the Online Store here. It is produced by a Ford Master Mechanic.
