[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Nov-02 AT 06:35 PM (EST)]I have a 77 f-150. It has a c6 trans with a np205 transfer case. I want to add overdrive to it. What I really want is to do is change out my c6 and put in a e4od but I haven't found anybody who has done it for less than the cost of a GV unit. I read the article in the tech about putting a aod behind a 460. But he spent 3500. Thats about a grand more than a GV unit. If anybody knows how or has any info please let me know. I am considering highly the Gearvenders unit do to the relabilty of it. The people that has this unit how do you like it? Is it what you expected? What Im after isn't a 2 mpg gain like a gear change. I want my truck to do 17 18 mpg. I hope I can get that with fuel injection, overdrive, and with 3.50 gears. Thanks
What engine do you have? An E4OD takes elctronic controls to operate. I wouldn't run an AOD behind a 460, there aren't enough guts there for reliability. The AOD was used behind the little engines and small "small" blocks, 300-6, 302, 351W. An external mechanical overdrive unit is the only good alternative for a 351M/400, 429, 460.

I've been considering a 700R4 with the front half of an NP 203 mated to my 205 to get 4-1 low range and a cheap reliable overdrive. Don't think it would be any cheaper in the long run, just easier to buy piece by piece.
Now I just have to remember where I saw that adapter plate.....
