Rear End ID

I have a '78 F100 with a 300 and a c6, how can i find out what kind of rear end i have? i know that i have 2.72 gears from the VIN, but don't know what kind of rear end, any help is greatly appreciated.

take a look at the diff cover on the rear. If the bolts are on the front of the axle housing, you have a 9", which I would suspect.

nope, they are on the back side with the cover

is there a metal tag attached by one of the cover bolts?

Yup, but there is a bolt on each end of the tag. I posted a couple of pics of the rear end in my gallery. The tag says 2.72, which i found out is my ratio by the VIN.
