I would like to know if it is possibe to adapt a 1999 7.3l to a 1989 c6 ,it would prefer to keep the c6 as it has a external overdrive and has a 1356 transfercase
Thanks
Dave
If the C-6 is from a Ford 6.9-7.3 diesel then it should bolt up the the 99 7.3 because the bolt pattern didnt change. The C-6 was available in the Ford trucks up until 97 or so.
I haven't heard of C6's being available that late, but 87 I can believe. It doesn't mean they haven't, but usually they had the overdrives, and C6's aren't.
That would be why I said I hadn't heard of it....I didn't find the big discussion, but found enough to see it is true. I take it there were some saying there wasn't such a thing? I'm mildly surprised, but in the heavier applications, i can see it happening. GM did the same with the TH400, it got used well into the 90's as well.
If I had been paying attention, he has an 89....

The truck I have is a 1989 F350 crewcab 4x4 460 on propane with a c6 and a gearvendors external od unit , I won a palletized 1999 7.3l diesel at a recent auction it was a spare unit for a fleet I would like to swap this into my truck and my preference is to try the c6 as it has the transfercase and od unit or source a e40d unit with a transfercase , I will have to sort out the electronic part next any ideas would help
well unless there is an aftermarket PCM, I'm at a loss for that. The C-6 came behind the 7.3 up until about 97 or so. The Ford Manuals I have dont list the C-6 for 99. I would post you trans question and see if anyone might have an idea on your swap. There are ways to beef up the 4R100 to last and be stronger than Ford built them.
