hey i was just wondering if the flame thrower kit from AutoLoc would work on my 99'F-150 it has 4 cats though so if i bought it would i have to take them off....how does it work?
What kind of kit is it? Is it one that cuts power to a pair of plugs and lets the fuel wash? If so, you don't want it. It will pour fuel down into the sump which hurts bearings and thins out the lubrication (blood) of your engine.
Instead, you need some sort of injection downstream into the exhaust with a spark plug mounted before the tip of the exhaust, and an ignition coil tied with the plug and then some sort of ignition module unless you want to run the plug hot I guess...
If its autoloc its junk, it cuts the ignition and washes down the cylinders with fuel, don't waste your money. Study some of the stuff on the net, there are plans for ones that use thier own supply of gas from the tank (own pump, parts for a nitrous system etc.) and also plans for propane ones. Nither are as safe but they are better for the engine. Also, you may come across one site that says put the gas nozzel before the muffler, DON'T that just turns the muffler into a bomb, put them after.
so dont get the AutoLoc b/c its junk?
and where can i find plans for other ones?
and which is safer propane or the gas from your own tank?
and how hard would this be too put on and set up?
I had plans for the gas one but I can't remember what i did with them. For the spark, a coil with the + hooked to a relay that is controlled by a toggle switch, on the - side you have a condenser hooked to the coil as well as a wire running to an HD signal flasher (tridon 12 lamp) and the other terminal on the flasher to ground. That should do good for spark. For the fuel, a fuel pump ('86 Prelude with MPFI is good) and run that through a line to a shut off sol. for a nitrous system, from there it goes to a nozzel and you can play with that changing jets till you find one that delivers a nice blue flame. I would start with a 10 thou jet and go up or down from there. BTW: Fuel nozzel should be as close to the outlet on the muffler as possible, spark plugs about 4" from the end of the tail pipes. Thats what the plans basically said. I think it also said too rich on fuel and you will get a pretty bushy flame. Also that you can't have any exhaust leaks at all.
hey thanks a lot 351M i am going to research some more on the net and i might check back with you to see what u think so check back in from time to tim
thanks again man
hey back already...i have found a kit that sounds pretty good...it says it dont let the fuel run down the cylindars like said earlier ....it is on www.eatmyflames.com if you know about it or want to check it out i would greatly appreciate it and see if its worth buying....thanks again
lol, check this question out from their site... My car has a catalytic converter, does this matter?
If a catalytic converter is installed on your vehicle to burn off excess fuel before it leaves the exhaust system, this may reduce the size of the exhaust flames because exhaust flame throwers rely on unburnt fuel. If you are looking to significantly improve or boost your exhaust flames, you can remove the converter (check local ordinances) or wait for its effectiveness to diminish
Local?? More like federal. Its gonna be hard to get flames without running a fuel line back there. This kit "?regulates?" unburnt fuel. If enough fuel is 'regulated', you might see some flames BUT, your truck will have a massive power loss while operating, and all the excess fuel WILL ruin the Catalytic converters.
Try it if you want, though, its $40. (which is the cheapest i've seen).
Hmm. i have no cats right now and I might try something..lol . 351M, is a condenser really needed?
Yup, same as in the ignition system, the plug won't fire right if you don't have it. I have to say that pretty much any commercial kit is going to wash the cylinders down. Thats where making it is the safer bet. I have also seen a points and condernser set grafted to a window or headlight motor or somthing like that to get quicker sparks. All this takes time and money, I will personally be doing this, I have been gathering parts, I have coils "in stock" so to speak already and the fuel pump, filter etc. I'm putting an actual rear tank in my truck for a fuel source because i'm on propane and don't want to tap into it.
man i cant find any good plans on the net...and they want you to buy them...can you tell me IN GREAT DETAIL (cuz i not real bright) how your gonna do it .....and what i need....and where i can buy things...and what they are and what they do...stuff like that......and when do you think you will be dont with yours?

Reason: add stuff
Oh boy, I'll see if I can draw up a plan and figure it all out. I could get you a ton of Part #s for jegs, then you just have to do a search and you will find prices but this ain't cheap.
ok ....but you really dont have to get part numbers if you dont want tooo.....just tell me like what it is, what it does, and where i might be able to get it....all i really need is a detailed plan of what things are what they do and how it works....
thanks a lot
Well, its just as easy to get you the #s then you have prices. For the fuel all you are doing is plumbing a line from the tank (or a small marine tank in the box) to normal cheap fuel filter then to a 45psi fuel pump, from there it will go to a NOS (or other brand) Nitrous system fuel shut off solenoid, from there to a nitrous nozzel threaded into the exhaust pipe right after the muffler.
