I just went to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and typed in "nutsert" in the search box and found what I was describing.
Check it out, maybe it will work for you

Jag, while posting this info that thought crossed my mind also. I think that the nutserts could be found locally, probably at your nearest NAPA, autobody supply store, W.W.Grainger, or a fastener store.
I'm not sure how small you can get the nutserts, they might be too big for the cowl vent problems that Vern was having. I havent started messing with my cowl vent. Mine doesn't leak. Of course thats probably due to the fact that the trucks has been sitting in the garage for the last few years and the only moistures its has had on the cowl is from the condensation from a frosty beveragae...
...I guess I could drink more and see if I can generate enough condensation dripping on the cowl to check for leaks
I think I have a plan for the weekend...

I'm going to check with NAPA this weekend and see what they have in the way of nutserts. Right now my vent assembly is being derusted in an electrolysis vat. This old truck sat under an oak tree for at least 5 years before I bought it so I expected to have problems with the vent.

It doesn't look like I am going to be able to use my cowl vent cover. If you still have one or if anyone else has a 48-50 cover let me know. I am also in the market for a good ash tray. Apparently, the spring that keeps it in place is gone on mine...
