I was wondering if anyone offers a kit for the 70's Fords to change my headlights over to those high intensity blueish headlights like on the new BMW's and Mercedes. I know they do it for some older trucks because there was one available for my old Dodge. Anyone know of any, I havent been able to find anything.
Well I dont know of any kits but there is a walkthrough on FTE to do what you are talking about (minus the blue bulbs, you'd have to buy em) but it gets some volts runnin through your lights.
i've seen the sealed beams that will fit our trucks for sale, with the high intensity blue lights. they were advertised in a classic truck mag... but i dont' remember who's sellin them
I've seen some sealed beam lights that are supposed to be just like the HID lights on some of these newer cars. Thay are Sylvania SilverStars or something like that. Kinda pricey at $25 each. If i ever get around to re-wiring my lights, per the tech article, I might buy a set to put in there.
Do out trucks use the same round headlight as vintage 65-73 Mustang? Because if they are wich i am pretty sure they are, they are sdvertized in many mustang mags. I know they have them at Mustangs plus, they may have a webpage but im not shure. Or you could call up NPD and ask for a conversion kit. they are quite pricey but I have heard that they are quality pieces. Hope this helps
Most of those HID "look like" kits are just blue tinted bulbs. The [link: motorhaven.autoanything.com|Online Store] here has a very good kit if you can convert your lights to use the new bulbs. See: [link:www.ford-trucks.com/articles/august2002/xenarc/xenarc.php|Installing Sylvania's Xenarc High Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlight System]
To get more light out of your existing Halogens try the headlight relay trick outlined on FTE [link:www.ford-trucks.com/articles/april2002/bronco78relay.php|Headlight relay system]
Thanks for using FTE!

Yes but they are halogens, and with the relay setup you can get a lot more light than the oem sealed beams. The HID conversion is a step or 2 up from the halogens. Hella sells a nice halogen conversion set. I bought a set of used Hella lamp housings of of "you know who" auctions, can use any H4 bulb. Seven inch round is what they all used til they went to the rectangular lights in 78 and 79
I just bought my truck and it has Cibie halogen conversion lights in it. I was shocked when I went to change a burnt out bulb and found this out. Great thing to find out though! It also uses the H4 bulbs and they do make a "blue" one.
