well not quite alive but all the major components are swapped over. we started with a running F250 regular cab yesterday and now have a supercab! i still need a driveshaft and to finish putting the dash together but beyond that we are doing okay. one surprise was the forward gas tank, the supercab frame takes a different tank and i could not use my old one. my microfiche is dead right now, anybody out there able to tell me if the tank is a supercab F250 4X4 part or will a 2 wheel drive supercab tank fit? thanks hawkrod
PS be sure to visit my galery to see pics of the job and the crew that helped.
Hey hawkrod, If you don't have the trim pieces already for the rear of your cab, let me know. My favorite bone yard has at least 5 '73-'79's that may have what you need. Your trucks looking great!
thanks for the offer but i already have the two tone trim. this swap was planned out and i had most of what i needed on hand. the only parts i am short are the e-brake cable, the forward gas tank, the rear driveshaft and i could use some better lower side trim for the cab (not the two strips shown but the ribbed stuff along the bottom, i have it all but the cab pieces are really nasty). today i am going to see about buttoning up the dashboard and adjusting the front sheetmetal and then it will be junkyarding time to scrounge for the last few parts. hawkrod
what color am i going to paint HIM? (sorry, this is a big boy not a delicate thing of beauty like the rest of your trailer queens!!! LOL). you may or may not agree but we refer to Big Ed as our suburban assault vehicle and after desert storm i decided i would make it look the part. all of that being said the truck will be two toned with the main color being appliance white and the side panels, the roof, and the stripe on the shell will be desert camouflage (that is why the roof is tan already). i didn't get to work on it today but i hope to finish buttoning things up by friday. hawkrod
wow, big day in the wrecker yesterday! found another 78 F250 4X4 (never seen one in a wrecker since i got my truck!) and got a few parts i needed as well as got to look at a hollander interchange. turns out that the front gas tank is the same as all supercabs whether or not it is a 4X4 (that is good news if it is true!). also got an intermittent wiper set, a tilt, some camper special wheels, a really nice sliding window, the F250 steering box, and some other good stuff. now i will get the truck together and when i sell off my extra parts i may actually break even! (i know, my wife is in shock and doesn't believe me either!). hawkrod
