Alright.. here it goes.. anyone know how in the heck to get a seized o2 sensor out? cuz it's not happening for me...
secondly, does anyone know if those upper balljoints are one piece (being the ball joint and arm) or two? because the dealer told me that they're all one piece.. and it kind of looks that way, however, the guy i get my parts from sold me just the balljoint from moog and said that they are in fact two seperate pieces.
Soak the O2 sensor with PB blaster overnight and heat up the surrounding bung in the pipe if need be. If you've got your replacement O2 sensor handy don't be afraid to hack up the old one to get a socket and breaker bar on the hex part.
I'm not really sure on the balljoint question. I've never seen a 2-piece balljoint myself, but I suppose they could be out there.
your upper control arm is part of the ball joint. That's how ford makes their money. You'll have to fork out the big dough for it. I replaced mine a couple years ago and found a place online that was quite a bit cheaper... genuine ford parts, too. I could probably fine the address if you want. Just for fun I pressed out the old ball joints, but was never able to find the correct size replacements.
You can try heating up around the sensor with a torch... that usually works, just be careful not to burn a hole in the exhaust.
As far as ball joints go - FORD (Original Equipment) is ONE piece and MUST be replaced as a control arm assembly, but most of the aftermarkets (and MOTORCRAFTs) allow for ball joint only replacement, but not until it has been replaced once.
For example a ball joint on a brand new truck must have the control arm replaced. If the ball joint goes bad AGAIN (and was replaced the first time with an aftermarket or motorcraft) then you can replace just the ball joint.
