The best way to do that is to find a good replacement panel. Then cut out the bad section and weld in the new section. If it is in the middle of the floor i would say reinforce it.
How are your cab mounts? These things tend to rust out where the cab mounts are spotwelded to the floorpan then just get worse from there. Another bad spot is along the edges where the floor vent/crap trap is. Mine were gone just about back to the seat and had to replace the floors, mid cab brace, lower door pillar (rounded piece at bot. of door, vents-inner and outer, and cab mounts. It was alot of work but I made most of it except the lower pillar area. I used a thin cut-off wheel on my grinder, sawzall and alot of welding wire. I just primered it this weekend. Good luck with your project.

I hacked the rusted part out of my floor with a cut-off wheel and steel-riveted in hardened stainless steel, so it would never come back. I then replaced the windshield rubber and resealed the cowl seam under the dash, to stop the water from getting back in.
The only bummer was that I went through $40 worth of drill bits drilling the hardened stainless.
I also have rust on my floor and was debating on just cutting out the whole floor and use a 16 gauge flat steel and weld it in to place with a few supports. But I have not really dug into it yet. Patch panels would be nice.
Patch panels are relatively cheap, and easy to use. Like someone posted above though, make sure it's not just your floor that's rusting. I pretty much replaced everything Charlie did, except I was able to save my side vents. New cab mounts, door pillars, floor pans, side cab braces, and rear cab corners. I'm just finishing up the metal/filler work now, and will hopefully have it all back together in the next week or two.
