A while back my 2000 Ford Excursion SES Light came on, the only code showing was P0676. I could clear the code, but it would eventually come back. I checked the codes yesterday and there were 4: P0676, P0673, PO678 & PO674.
With the 1 code I thought it was probably the Glow Plug. Now, with 4 codes I'm not sure. Would Glow Plugs start going out at the same time? Is there something else I should check? Is there someway to further isolate the problem, or should I just replace all of the Glow Plugs.
Well, after some addtional research in these fine forums, it seems that Glow Plugs last about 100K. It does not seem to be the relay as I think that would throw a different code. Looks like I can pick-up Motorcraft Glow Plugs at O'Rielly for $8.49 ($8.99 @ Autozone). It does not seem to be a difficult process. Any tips or tricks when changing the Glow Plugs on an Excursion?
In south central Texas you don't need glowplugs to start the engine, but if they're turning on the SES you probably should change them anyways.
It is as straight forward as it appears unless one gets stuck in the hole or a tip breaks off. Then you'll need some tips and tricks.....but those eventualities are also covered in this forum and a little more additional research will find those answers too.
Yea, I didn't think I needed them much around here. Maybe a couple days during the winter. The code for the #6 popped up a couple months ago. I would periodically check the codes to see if anything else may have happened. It was after an extensive driving vacation that 4 of them popped up. After I clear the codes, it takes a day or 2 for the light to come on again, and usually not right after start-up, but after driving a bit.
did my plugs a while back. not too bad, just took the time. heres a good site for instructions on the plugs and wealth of other info. don't know if you had it yet or not... http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/_i...az/index3.html
I've considered putting in a switch to eliminate my plugs except when it's cold, thought it may make them last longer. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
