Yes you have the right name for this.
Most newer steering columns have a provisions for a nuetral safety/back up light switch on them. The typical mounting point is low on the column below the ignition switch.
Ron Francis Wireworks makes a neutral safety switch that mounts on the transmission. You might look at it if you don't have the safety switch on the column. I used one on a ch**y trans once and it worked ok.
The backup lamp switch and the neutral safety switch are located togeather on a AOD trans (well at least on my 87 AOD)
They are located on the drivers side about midway and they stand vertical.
The diagram I have here shows a P/O and a BK/PK wire code? but then on the start/ignition wiring diagram they show a R/LB coming from the start side of the ignition and a W/PK going to the starter relay.
I will try and trace mine (it's covered in the new wire loom) and get back to you.
I know it works because I had it running Friday and I don't have the steering column installed now (getting ready for paint)
Yes, your AOD is set up for the Nuetral safety/backup switch to plug in where merc546
said. I got mine with the trans [cut the wires]. With a continuity tester it is easy to determine which is N.S. side. Then wire inline between ign. switch and ign. side of starter relay. I even used the backup switch side for backup lites mounted under the truck. Joe
The column & shifter are Mopar, the shifter is on the column.
I'll look a tthe tranny too.

GW,
I'm using a Mopar column from a 5th Avenue and unfortunately the neutral safety switch was mounted on/in the transmission on those cars. What I did was use an old lever type backup light switch for a neutral safety switch. I made a bracket to mount the switch down near the transmission linkage and positioned it so that the lever on it is activated only when the column shifter is in park. This means you can only start in park, not park AND neutral, but I am willling to live with that. There are better and more expensive ways to go but this works for me...

Thanks Vern,
I have the same column [the price was right ] and someone in Syracuse suggested a similar fix...which is what I'll get around to eventually I'm having too much fun driving right now
Vern & all:
Since the Mopar Column & the AOD both use a tranny driven system, is it possible and easy 'nuff to adapt the two?
53merc, the nuetral safety switch on the AOD does not involve the column. You confused me with the comment on the Wire Works panel. All you need to do is interupt the wire from the ign. switch to the starter relay. The switch on the AOD senses park or nuetral. Joe
