yeah, the best cure is distraction. most of the "cures" focus on some long detailed list of instructions, or diversions while attemping to stop the hiccups, meanwhile you forgot that you had them, or control your breathing while concentrating so hard, that your hiccups go away. also, some of the cures like "13 swallows" take time, so you know you need to take a big breath.... the big breath is the stabilizer of the diaphram, everything else is hocus pokus.

Filling a coffee cup with water and sucking it through a clean wash cloth....put the wash cloth over the cup and then drink like you would coffee or any other liquid.....sucking it through the cloth. This WORKS!
