to all you guys and girls out there who want to add a supercharger to your 4.2l you better do some internal work to your motor as well oh dont add a superccharger to a motor with alot of miles on it and it better be in good running condition
Dont listen to the first half of this post. Its complete crap. There are a ton of ford trucks with high mileage and just put on their FIRST forced induction system.
There is no need to up your internals until you start pushing OVER 350 RWHP, plain and simple.
headres a re a must a camshaft is also a must a bigger throttle body a bonus and you better add at least 24#hr if not 30#hr fuel injectors a mass air meter for the extra air delivery 85mm works great
Headers are nice, but there are no major gains until you have some kind of FI, although you will pick up some HP/TQ while NA.
A cam is nice, and will up some power, but definately not a MUST. RPM does have them, and with complete bolt ons Ive seen trucks top 260rwhp.
Any FI system worth a crap will either come with a Fuel Management Unit, FMU, or injectors and tuning items. Either stick with the FMU or go with a 90 mm MAF and a set of 42 lbs/hr or more injectors
Stock throttlebodies are supporting the highest HP FI v6 fords out there. No reason for a new TB.
Just some food for thought...I have done a ton of posting/research/etc for this subject. Take my opinion for whatever you want.
I, for one, agree with Garrett's comments. I didn't install the supercharger on my truck until it had close to 100,000 miles. If a high mileage engine is in good internal shape, there's no reason why forced induction can't be installed. Here's the particulars for my truck:
1998 Ford F150 4.2 with 102,000 miles
Vortech Supercharger
19 pound injectors
Vortech FMU
4:10 gears
JBA headers
MSD ignition
electric fans
SCT Tune
280 RWHP with 316 torgue
According to some very knowledgeable people, the 4.2 will support up to 400 HP with stock internals and a safe tune.
Just my 2 cents worth!
