Question for a friend: He wants something big and powerful and good without spending a lot of money. I've recommended a lot of things but he still says it's too expensive, I've tried telling him to save up, and I think he's going to start.. but what do you guys recommend? He's been looking at Pyle and Pyramid and then he went on to a few thing's I've heard mentioned before but don't remember any specs on. What do you guys recommend that's relatively cheap but still sounds good? He's wanting more SPL than SQ.
Tell him to get 2 or 3 rip off brand 15" subs and a class D mono amp. A know a guy who has 2 rip off brand 15"s and a 15" MTX all hooked up to a 600 watt Class D mono amp with all the bass settings turned up to max. It's louder than a freight train. It has so much bass it's hard to swollow a drink of water when it's turned up. It's pretty rediculous. 15's aren't very accurate but they pound. I also know someone who has 4 15's and 2 huge amps in a Crown Victoria, and It's more rediculous. I cant explain it. His rear veiw mirror fell off when he cranked it up. it was intense.
But thats the cheap way to pound. a few cheap 15's, in Big sealed boxes, powered by a mono amp with bass boost and gain on max. Thats what I would do If I didn't have a pickup truck. He can probobly go to walmart and buy a 15 for like 50 bucks or less, build a box (15 bucks for wood, and a few bucks for the sealent and screws), and a mono amp. the amp's the only thing that might cost him, unless he goes on Ebay or etronics.com
Well he's interested in 10's, I'm guessing because they're a little more accurate. I'm thinking about recommending some decent stuff. Nothing bigger than a 12". I'll do some shopping around for him.
actually I've heard 1 10 in a Big sealed box with a 200W bridged amp powering it and it hit pretty hard. It was in a 84 camaro, and the box was in that big pit looking thing in the trunk, and the sub was facing up towards the glass. Sounded great. the sub was maybe 50 or 60 bucks, it was a pioneer 10, a little for the wood, and the amp was 100ish at walmart. I think the box had enough volume to be sufficient for a 15.
Your friend could get 2 10"s, put them in a big box, and run a cheap 500W walmart amp to them, that could sound good I guess. cheap yet good 10's are around 50-70 bucks each.
