I think I'm a know-a-lot. I went to college for many years. Every year or so, I thought "Boy you're something special now, you really know a lot." As I pursued additional advanced degrees I began to realize there was so much more yet to learn. Sadly, my education ended with a PhD that proved I was still sorely ignorant; all of this eductaion just served to illustrate how much I didn't know. Now these many years later my life is a relentless pursuit of more learning. It is a vicious circle. With the advent of the Internet this has only become worse. Here I sit with all this education and given a certian question I still ask "What is right?"
I have always been a avid reader and retain much of what was read. To some, I might sound like a "know it all", but I am not. To others, they find me a "walking library" to ask questions of to get some answers. Others tell me I sound very wise for the amount of knowledge I do have as resident "Viking Answer Lady" on the Runegame.com gamesite I admin for.
But the basis of all wisdom is not how much knowledge you have but the willingness to admit, "I dont know everything". Then go learn to fill in the gaps.
"Much have I travelled, much have I tested (question and answer);
Much from have I learned."
("Vaftrudnismál", Elder Edda.)
"I began to thrive, to grow wise,
To grow greater, and enjoy;
For me words led from words to new words;
For me deeds led from deeds to new deeds."
(Havamal, Elder Edda)
